NORD is the leader in driving improvement for the lives of people impacted by rare diseases. There are 7,000 rare diseases affecting 25-30 million Americans, with 90% of these diseases lacking an FDA approved treatment. NORD is committed to supporting patients and organizations, accelerating research, providing education, disseminating information, raising awareness, and driving public policy.
We Are Ace was established in commemoration of my late cousin, Felix Figueroa, who represented the spirit of compassion and generosity.
Felix Figueroa
Felix was born with a rare genetic disorder known as Weaver syndrome. Although his early prognosis assumed a lifespan until early adolescents, he went on to live until 37 years old. Felix past away in 2020 from a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Despite his age, Felix's condition allowed him to remain a child at heart and in spirit.
